Book of Nahum was written for the decline of Assyria sometime between B.C, merely before their downfall at the hands of the Babylonians and almost years after the events in the book of Jonah. Nineveh had turned from its repentant attitude shown during times of Jonah and had taken the northern kingdom of Israel into captivity. As predicted, in both the bible and the book of Nahum, the Fall of Nineveh was caused by the flooding of the Tigris River. The "overflowing" waters from the flood destroyed buildings near the waterside, however the city was not directly destroyed due to the floods, the major affect the river flooding had on Nineveh was the consequences to.
