Book of Nahum was written for the decline of Assyria sometime between B.C, merely before their downfall at the hands of the Babylonians and almost years after the events in the book of Jonah. Nineveh had turned from its repentant attitude shown during times of Jonah and had taken the northern kingdom of Israel into captivity. As predicted, in both the bible and the book of Nahum, the Fall of Nineveh was caused by the flooding of the Tigris River. The "overflowing" waters from the flood destroyed buildings near the waterside, however the city was not directly destroyed due to the floods, the major affect the river flooding had on Nineveh was the consequences to.

NINEVEH'S HISTORY "The oracle of Ninevah. The book of the vision of Nahum the Elkoshite." (NAHUM ). Ninevah had a policy of world conquest and domination. A part of their plans included God's chosen people, Israel and Judah. The Scriptures relate to us how both Israel and Judah fell away from God. The book contains the "vision of Nahum", whose name means "comfort" and is related to the name Nehemiah, meaning "The Lord comforts" or "comfort of the Lord." (Nineveh's fall, which is Nahum's theme, would bring comfort to Judah.) Nothing is known about him except his hometown (Elkosh), and even its general location is uncertain.

The Fall of Nineveh is a long poem. It consists of the Prelude and thirty books. It comprises over than six hundred pages and more than twenty thousand lines. Because of that it is one of the longest epic poems in English and European literature. Nineveh was the capital city of the Assyrian empire. It was really destroyed in B.C. Book of Nahum, the seventh of 12 Old Testament books that bear the names of the Minor Prophets (grouped together as The Twelve in the Jewish canon). The title identifies the book as an “oracle concerning Nineveh” and attributes it to the “vision of Nahum of Elkosh.” The fall of Nineveh, the capital.

Therefore, Nineveh must have been destroyed after B.C. but no later thanwhen the Medes are mentioned as the conquerors of the city. An ancient account called The Fall of Nineveh Chronicle reveals an account of this time period, providing firsthand, extra-biblical documentation.

The translation (with some missing text) reads as follows. On this day, 2, years ago, the ancient metropolis of Nineveh fell. “ ABC 3 ” is a historiographical text from ancient Babylonia which records August 10th BC as the date of this dramatic occurrence.

At that time, Nineveh was the largest city in the world and the capital of Assyria. Shortly before fall of Nineveh book fall of Nineveh, the capital of Assyria, in B.C., Nahum uttered his prophecy against the hated city.

To understand the prophet’s exultant outburst of joy over the impending destruction it is necessary to recall the savage cruelty of Assyria, which had made it the scourge of the ancient Near East for almost three centuries.

The Fall of Nineveh Chronicle is a Clay Tablet written by the Babylonians and they describe in a mostly unbiased fashion, the events that occurred during the siege and the overall Destruction of Nineveh. The book of Nahum explains in vivid detail why God had decided to destroy Nineveh.

The prophet Nahum explained in great detail why the Lord decided to remove Nineveh as a power. When God allowed the Assyrians to conquer Israel and harass Judah, they did so with great cruelty. Nineveh's Fall - Bible Prophecy Fullfilled Nineveh, that great city of the Assyrian Empire and a bitter enemy of Israel, was spoken against by the prophet Nahum.

God gave the following words to Nahum of how the city would meet its destruction. The entire book is a prediction of the fall of the city of Nineveh in BC. Thus, the book was written somewhere between and BC.

A case can be made for the proclamation of the message, and writing of the book, about BC. Battle of Nineveh, ( bce). Determined to end Assyrian dominance in Mesopotamia, Babylonia led an alliance in an attack against the Assyrian capital, Nineveh.

The city was comprehensively sacked after a three-month siege, and Assyrian King Sinsharushkin was killed. The Fall of Nineveh - Your enemy is coming to crush you, Nineveh. Man the ramparts.

Watch the roads. Prepare your defenses. Call out your forces. Even though. centuries after the fall of this nation.1 1. ‘King of Nineveh’ vs ‘King of Assyria’ If this be the case, then one must consider why, if the author of the book lived centuries after the ‘historical Jonah’ of 2 Kingshe 1W.

Neil indicates this term ‘could hardly be used if the Assyrian empire had been in existence.’. And indeed, in BC Nineveh was destroyed by the Babylonians.

Lessons for us. The introductory chapter of Nahum’s book makes clear that the fall of Nineveh is an example of a general theme: God is at work in history, He won’t let the idolatrous and violent nations endure forever.

Jonah - So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them.

Nahum - The burden of Nineveh. The book of the vision of Nahum the Elkoshite. Genesis - And Resen between Nineveh and. It might help to think of Nahum as a follow-up to the book of Jonah. Both prophets speak God’s word regarding the city of Nineveh. Both warn that the Lord will judge them for their wickedness.

But while God extends compassion to Nineveh in Jonah, He only promises to punish and avenge in Nahum. Nahum is similar to Habakkuk, too.
